Diving Cutting and Welding

Frank E. Thompson

First Edition New York: Cornell Maritime Press, 1944 Cloth Very Good/Good 8vo

A wartime publication written by an operator, designer and manufacturer of underwater salvage equipment, who was engaged in salvage operations at Pearl Harbour. Includes information and illustrations on diving procedure, descent, ascent, diving equipment , helmets, suits, air-supply attachments, air pumps, decompression, treating accidents, accident prevention, method's of signalling et al.

Made from war economy standard materials, this has held up surprisingly well. The edges of the jacket are worn, there is a 2 inch closed tear on the front panel, partially obscuring the author's name (see pic), some colour bleeding onto the back panel which has left damp stains on a small part of the last 20 or so pages.

This copy is from the library of Gerd von Dincklage-Schulenberg, a well known Australian diving pioneer of German extraction, who was famous as the first person to complete the now annual Cottesloe to Rottnest Island swim in 1956.
